Choosing Trust Over Fear

How to Choose Trust Over Fear in Difficult Situations {Video}

In this post, you’ll see how it is possible to choose trust over fear when faced with a difficult situation. Be sure to also check out my shadow work for manifestation post.

Did you know that when it comes to fear we have a choice? We don’t have to fall into fear, no matter how difficult the situation is.

The past couple of days this memory has been popping up for me, so I felt compelled to share.

Back when I was around 20 weeks pregnant, I had genetic testing done. And, markers came back that I was a carrier for genes for cystic fibrosis.

If you aren’t familiar with cystic fibrosis, it’s a condition that affects the lungs and the pancreas. There are varying degrees of severity, but in its most severe form, children need lung transplants to survive.

Children with cystic fibrosis don’t live past their 20s.

As I had worked in a pediatric ICU for a few years, I had seen many of these kids. I’ve seen a glimpse of what their lives are like in the worst times.

You can imagine that when you get news like this while you are pregnant, it can be very scary.

I was in this pregnancy group, and we were all sharing our updates. I shared mine, and the girls in my group were absolutely flabbergasted that I wasn’t freaking out.

Choose Trust Over Fear

My answer was that first of all, the odds were low that this child would be born with cystic fibrosis.

Second, I made a choice when I got that news. I surrendered. I remember saying to myself, “If my path is to be the mother of a sick child and to do the hospital stays with them and to be their major caretaker/nurse, I accept that path.”

It’s not the path I want.

It’s not the path I would choose, but there’s inherent value in the things we receive that we did not choose.

Sometimes what we need is not what we want. And, what we want is not what we need.

Yet, we always get what we need.

I just quickly came to this place of trust and surrender. I surrender to my highest good. Whatever is for the highest good of this child.

My husband at the time got his genetic testing done, and he was not a carrier, so there was a zero chance that our child would be born with cystic fibrosis.

Surrendering to the Highest Good

During that few weeks that I didn’t know if he was a carrier, I could have gone down that fear path.

I could have been pumping adrenaline, I could have been in fear, and done all this nerve-wracking research.

Instead, I made a choice. If this is my path, I accept it. If this is my child’s path, what they came to experience here on planet earth, then I trust that it is my job to support them.

In the long run, my daughter was born very healthy. I consciously made a choice to surrender. This also speaks to our programming that there is one path to happiness.

Just One Path to Happiness?

It seems there is one path to happiness.

We go to school, then college, then we get a regular 9-5 job, get married, have two children, buy a house, save our money, and retire at 65.

That’s not the path to happiness for a lot of people.

I’ll share a story about a family member who had very severe cerebral palsy. He was my brother-in-law and passed away a few years ago.

He was wheelchair-bound, he drank mostly milkshakes, and he couldn’t chew or swallow anything solid. In this narrow path of happiness, his life would have been looked at as sad.

Yet, when I met him and spent time with him, he was a powerful, powerful soul.

His challenges in life were different than our standard challenges.

Some of his challenges were around immobility and the inability to make his own decisions about what would happen to him in a day. His challenges were communicative, as he couldn’t express himself as you and I do.

Although he couldn’t speak, he was highly communicative.

I knew he was a highly evolved soul and not everyone would get that impression. This was also back before I tapped into all my intuitive gifts.

He didn’t have to worry about money, bills, trying to find a partner, appearances, and social constructs.

Yet just because his challenges were different doesn’t mean that he didn’t lead a beautiful, incredible, miraculous life that expanded his consciousness.

When These Challenges Come Up

When these points in life come up, where there is a big disruption that says, “You may or may not be deviating from the normal path of happiness….” You have to ask yourself, is that really a bad thing?

Can I still live a joyful, happy life by giving up this standard path to happiness?

This comes back to the concept of non-polarity, where we take each experience and each moment that comes into our life.

We have to come to this space and accept that experiences aren’t good or bad, they are just experiences.

We have to have trust over fear that these experiences are leading us to a path of more joy, more soul expansion. Then, it takes all that fear out. It takes the anxiety out.

It takes out the need to control.

When we can come back to trust and faith, it’s calming, grounding, and peaceful. Trust over fear is a beautiful thing.

Most of the time, the thing we are so afraid of isn’t going to happen anyway. So we just waste time and leak a ton of energy into these circumstances that aren’t real.

When you can come back to choosing, this is how you come to the space of enlightenment and choose energetic freedom and sovereignty.

Sending you lots of love!
